Mary Fran Matichak

Mary Fran Matichak, (owner) experienced the life enhancing qualities of yoga during her first class in 1991. It was the perfect complement to her daily meditation, which she began in 1977.

In the year 2000, after a 15-year career as a corporate sales manager, Mary Fran followed her heart opening her own yoga studio in Maine.  In 2005 she moved to Oak Park to be near her aging  parents and opened Inner Wisdom (spring 2006).  She is a certified Iyengar yoga instructor, which involves vigorous years of training followed by thorough testing. After passing the first phase of certification, a second assessment must be completed within 2 years.

Mary Fran apprenticed with senior Iyengar teacher John Schumacher in Bethesda, MD and studied 6 years with world-renowned teacher Patricia Walden of Boston. The month of November 2009 was spent in Pune India, studying directly with the Iyengar family.  She had the honor of being under direct instruction of B.K.S. Iyengar in September of 2005 at the Iyengar convention. She attended the Iyengar convention taught by Geeta Iyengar in May of 2007. Continued education through workshops and advanced teacher training programs are prioritized. Training in massage therapy enhances her knowledge. She is a Reiki Master.

Mary Fran strongly believes in the value of nutritional awareness and environmental and spiritual consciousness.

She is donating .50 cents of every class fee to benefit local community needs.

She offers special thanks to her cherished husband, family, teachers and friends.

“The most effective anti-aging secrets are in the Iyengar classes taught by Mary Fran.  I am now the grandmother of a second little girl and I am finding that with increased participation in her classes I have the flexibility, balance, strength, and peace of mind to hold an infant for hours, hum soothing chants, and performing duties such as piggy back and horseback rides.  She is a role model for the body and mind experience, caring not only for the health and wellbeing of your physical being but also for the spiritual. She “walks the talk” and inspires us to do the same.   cc (student)

Muriel Quinn Muriel Quinn came to yoga the way that many Westerners come to yoga: physical injury. Because of undeveloped muscle groups and poor alignment, everyday life became a challenge for Muriel after the birth of her second child. With a dedicated practice, Muriel was able to trade weekly trips to health care providers for yoga classes. She continues to have an active personal practice and remains an enthusiastic learner of the yogic arts. Her classes focus on proper alignment and breathing in a non-competitive atmosphere. She believes that everyone can benefit from a yoga practice. Muriel is very joyful about yoga and is thrilled to share yoga with her students. Muriel studied Hatha Yoga at The Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago.  She has studied privately under the guidance of Mary Samano for many years. Muriel is also influenced by the Tantric Hatha teachings of Jim Bennitt and loves exploring the bliss of Anusara Yoga. She lives in Oak Park with her husband and four children.
Laura Lundy Laura Lundy is a highly dedicated Certified Iyengar Instructor.  She has studied personally and taught for many years under the guidance of Senior Iyengar teacher Lois Steinberg and Junior Intermediate Iyengar teacher Patrina Dobish.  She began yoga to help maintain her equilibrium during her day vocation as an art therapist working with inner city kids.  She loves the joy and fun yoga has brought to her life and she shares this with her students.
