B.K.S. Iyengar is a living master with over 70 years of dedication to his art. It is a complete approach to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual transformation, bringing the practitioner to physical health and vitality, mental clarity and wisdom, emotional serenity, poise and joy.

His style of yoga is safe orderly, systematic technique of postures taught to develop strength, stamina, concentration and body alignment. Focus is placed on training the body to stand and move in physical alignment which results in less muscular tension and more openness and space for the health and function of inner organs. Strength of the body (muscular, nervous system, organs, immune system) as well as strength of character are main benefits. With each practice one’s mind is trained to focus, resulting in meditation in action. Both mind and body feel quiet and relaxed yet alert and clear from this cleansing practice.

Use of props aid and adjust poses for individual needs. Students at any level of fitness can work at their own pace to progress and feel better. It is a wonderful spiritual path for those with this intention but it is not a necessity.

About Meditation

The 7th branch of the ancient art of yoga, meditation is the development of one’s relationship with their own highest self of purity and love. It is a practice, which requires cultivation but is quite accessible to all. This practice removes one from daily distractions into a place of peace, happiness and inner wisdom. It has many physical stress releasing benefits as well. One-hour relaxation / meditation classes begin with gentle restorative postures to calm the nervous system and are followed by meditation.
